Commercial Real Estate in Memphis and our Galaxy

One of the Van Gundy brothers trashes Memphis. Again.

During the Lakers/Mavericks game this afternoon, the skinny Van Gundy brother dumped on Memphis again. Talking about the Gasol trade, he said just getting out of Memphis was the good part of the trade for him. Being on a championship contending team was just a bonus. I don’t have the exact quote, because I don’t have this “Tivo” you speak of. If someone has the exact wording, or a link to the video, PLEASE let me know.

Later in the game, just before halftime he listed his candidates for MVP. Among Lebron James, and Kobe Bryant was the entire Memphis Organization for “adjusting the balance of power in the Western Conference”. He’s actually right about that. The Gasol trade is what started the arms race in the West.

The Memphis Grizzlies, L.A. Clippers, Mark Cuban, and Presidential Politics

Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks made his endorsement for President of the U.S. of America today.

Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks Michael Heisley, (current) owner of the Memphis Grizzlies Donald Sterling, owner of the L.A. Clippers

The only reason this has any relevance for us in Memphis is…Michael Heisley. I grew up in the shadow of the awfulness that was (and still is) the Los Angeles Clippers. Donald Sterling, the owner of the Clippers is widely acknowledged as a great member of the community in L.A. for his charity work. He’s made a lot of money through his real estate investments, but his claim to “fame” is as the worst owner in professional sports history. Read more »

The Grizzlies lose their MVP. Jerry West is leaving.

The Grizzlies are losing their one (and so far, only) legend. Jerry West is leaving the Grizzlies for a stress-free retirement in the traffic of Southern California.

A sad day in Memphis Sports

Links and excerpts of three news stories and my memories of Jerry West after the jump.

Avril Lavigne buys $9.5 mil house. Mike Miller of our Grizzlies has an L.A. pad.

Punk chica Avril Lavigne bought a little love nest with her rocker husband in Bel-Air, down the road from Los Angeles.

From the L.A. Times:

Lavigne, 22, wanted to build a home but settled on buying one that was fairly new with substantial upgrades. The three-story house behind gates has eight bedrooms and 10 1/2 bathrooms in 12,000 square feet. The Tuscan-style residence, on an acre, also has an elevator, an office, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a steam shower, a sauna, a pool, a spa and garage space for 10 cars.

The same article had a blurb on the best player on your Memphis Grizzlies, Mike Miller.

Guess what Michael Heisley’s up to? Maybe buying the Chicago Cubs.

There was an article in todays Wall Street Journal about the sale of Tribune Co. (owner of the L.A. Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Cubs, and a bunch of other assets) to “real-estate mogul” Sam Zell. In the article was a brief, BRIEF, comment on our Memphis Grizzlies majority owner, Michael Heisley.

Anaylsts and potential bidders estimated that the Cubs could fetch $600 million. Among those who have expressed an interest in the past: Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks; Jerry Colangelo, chairman of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, and real-estate investor Donald Trump…Locals who have expressed an interest include…Michael Heisley, majority owner of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.

What’s with all the NBA guys wanting to move into Baseball? Can you imagine George Steinbrenner owning an NBA team?

Pop Quiz: If you were selling your baseball team to the owner of an NBA team, would you sell it the owner of the:

a) Dallas Mavericks, 61-12 and reigning Western Conference Champs

Want to live like a legend? Buy Jerry West’s house.

I don’t know how I missed this, but Jerry West just put his home up for sale. The article was in the Commercial Appeal, but I didn’t hear about it until I read it in Cameron Maness’s blog.

I understand that in the last three years only 6 homes in this market have sold for over $3M. You can be LUCKY # 7!!! Give me a call today to buy your dream home!

Someone tell me why Cameron’s trying to be a buyer’s rep for a house.

Here’s an excerpt from The C.A.

Memphis Grizzlies president of basketball operations Jerry West is selling his 15,000-square-foot Southwind home, fueling speculation that “the logo” is gone after this season, one of the worst since the team arrived in Memphis. Read more »
